Why Choose the Buff & Recoat Process?

When your hardwood floor begins to lose its shine, shows fine micro-scratches, or high-traffic zones appear worn, the buff & recoat process is an ideal solution.

  • No full sanding required — only the existing finish is lightly abraded (screened), and a new finish is applied.

  • Faster and less disruptive than full refinishing.

  • More cost-effective while still restoring the look and protective layer of the floor.

  • Extends the life and beauty of your hardwood flooring without major interruption.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Typically every 3-5 years for moderate traffic areas. Regular recoating helps delay the need for full refinishing.

Depending on project size and finish, the job can often be completed in one day or within 24-48 hours, with light foot traffic possible soon after application.

It can remove surface‐level scratches and restore shine, but deep scratches or damage that penetrates the wood will require full refinishing.

No. Buff & recoat is meant to refresh the existing finish, not alter the wood stain colour. To change colour you’ll need full sanding/refinishing.

Minimal. Because the wood isn’t sanded to bare, there’s significantly less dust compared to full refinishing, and we handle cleanup professionally.

Remove furniture, wall decorations, rugs and any obstacles. We will handle the rest including protective coverings for vents and adjacent areas.

After application, avoid heavy traffic for a few hours (or as per manufacturer’s cure time). Use recommended floor care products and avoid wax/oil-soap cleaners. Regular sweeping and soft-cleaning will help prolong the finish.

When Buff & Recoat is Not Enough

You should opt for full refinishing (sanding to bare wood and applying new stain/finish) if:

  • 1

There are deep scratches or gouges reaching the wood.

  • 2

Finish is completely worn away and bare wood is exposed or discoloured.

  • 3

The floor has been coated or cleaned with wax/oil-soap treatments that prevent proper bonding of new finish.

  • 4

You wish to change the wood stain colour or tone significantly.
